He goes to Florence, to his aunt’s home. In a clinic, where he goes by chance, he meets Martha and falls in love with her. After a series of funny situations (an old friend from the relentless chatter coming from Naples and the mature aunt and her elderly lover, a young American priest who wants to involve him in his visits to evangelical force, the encounter with Riccardino, a young man frustrated by an oppressive mother and the father waiting for the miracle of re-growth of an amputated hand, etc.) Gaetano decides to stay in Florence and to act as father to Martha’s incoming son, even if the girl does not want to disclose the exact name of the father..
Plot: Gaetano, giovane napoletano, decide di lasciare casa, lavoro ed amici, per cercare altri momenti di vita e conoscere altre persone. Arriva a Firenze, a casa della zia. In un ambulatorio, dove capita per caso, conosce Marta e se ne innammora. Dopo una serie di divertenti situazioni (un vecchio amico dalla parlantina inarrestabile arriva da Napoli; la matura zia ed il suo attempato amante; un giovane prete Americano che vuole coinvolgerlo per forza nelle sue visite evangeliche; l’incontro con Riccardino, un giovane frustrato da una madre oppressiva; il padre che aspetta il miracolo della ricrescita di una mano amputata; etc.) Gaetano decide di restare a Firenze e di fare da padre al figlio che Marta aspetta, anche se la ragazza non vuole rivelare con esattezza il nome del padre.

Italian comedy masterpiece
This flick is a masterpiece for every ‘commedia all’italiana’ enjoyer. It is the first film directed by the late Massimo Troisi and besides the subtle potrait of italian society and the enourmous differences that, still 40 years apart, influence the country, this movie touches your heart for a different reason. Massimo’s humor set differences aside and reunited people under the light of true laugh. Rest easy Massimo, you’ll never be forgotten.
