The comic secretly holds powers over three lost Ghoulies that are imprisoned within its pages. They are soon released by Professor Ragnar who uses them in an attempt to stop ‘Prank Week’ where frats play tricks on each other for a tinfoil crown. Skip Carter and his frat house of party animals are destined to take back the crown but he is having problems with his girlfriend who is dating his arch rival, Jeremy. When Jeremy frames Skip, resulting in his expulsion, the Ghoulies are sent to kill Skip and any other frats that stand in their way..
Plot: A college teacher brings the little creatures back to his campus, where they proceed to terrorize the faculty and students.

Before the Cheddar Goblin, there were the Ghoulies!
Charles Band’s Ghoulies are back and this time they are plopped into an 80s style college sex comedy, meaning imagine if a bunch of Gremlins or Critters were dropped into “Revenge of the Nerds” or “Porky’s.” Competing frats are vying for the tinfoil crown in their annual prank war, much to the consternation fo uptight professor (and genre icon) Kevin McCarthy (“Invasion of the Body Snatcher” “Piranha” “Innerspace”). McCarthy finds a mysterious comic book and reads cryptic ancient passages from the tome, which unleashed the titular Ghoulies upon the unwitting college students and staff. This entry in the series is sadly missing the stop motion Ghoulies of the first two films, but I did still enjoy the old school puppet effects. The film was also more broadly comedic, particularly in giving the Ghoulies voices so they could deliver cheesy horror themed one-liners. “Ghoulies Go to College” is nothing brilliant, but it makes to pretensions about what it is, so if you enjoy the horror sub genre of little things attacking large things (i.e. everything from “Attack of the Puppet People” to “Troll” to “Puppet Master” to “Child’s Play”), which I am most certainly a fan of, you will likely enjoy the silliness of “Ghoulies Go to College,” which also feature the film debut of Matthew “Scream” Lillard, and supporting roles by Jason Scott Lee, Marcia Wallace, and Kane Hodder.

Plenty of fun to kill an hour
For those of you who gave this movie anything less than 10/10, you are judging this movie far too harshly!!! I enjoyed this more than Critters and Gremlins, it was an hour of fun and features possibly the most ridiculous ending to a movie that I couldn’t stop laughing at! Prank week was hilarious, and the ghoulies themselves were absolutely hilarious. Oh, and it also has Matthew Lillard and Jason Scott Lee in it, with the voice of Mrs Krabbaple from the Simpsons Marsha Wallace! If you have ever wanted to see a movie to laugh at when you are really down on life, this is the medicine I would prescribe. It shows us how silly life is that a movie like this can actually feature Hollywood stars!!!
