Good up to date on humanity colonizing other planets
The Search for a new earth is a documentary focusing on how humanity can colonize a planet around the star closest to the sun.

Although the name Stephen Hawking is used a lot in marketing the documentary it’s more about two young to me unknown scientists who travel the world looking at different technologies. Reviewed are what planets outside the solar system are available for colonization, how to get there and how to colonize.

Limited to 90 mins only so many technologies can be considered. Personal preference decides if some technologies left out should have been included and vice versa. The presentation is to the point and science based but held in a language understandable to most 15 year olds and up. Technology gets dated very fast in this area but the makers of this documentary have done a good job presenting new, modern ways of solving these old issues.

It has become an excellent modern documentary on space tech and planet colonization. Hurry up and watch it before the technology presented gets dated!

A Step Backwards
Most of what is mentioned seems quite outdated as a Step Backwards not a Step Forwards, as far as Technology.

Scientist and Author, Arthur C. Clarke already used the idea of a Nuclear Drive, as a series of nuclear weapons detonated at the rear of the Spacecraft one after another, propelling the Spacecraft. Not shown in Movie 2001 A Space Odyssey, as would look ridiculous (spacecraft looks like passing gas (farting)thru Space).

Other ideas like as depicted by Movies and TV Series of a Constant Drive accelerating continuously during the entire Voyage.

Near Speed of Light, Spacecraft Icarus of The Planet of the Apes 1968. Space based magnetic “Slingshots” (same principle as a Magnetic “Rail Gun”) “Slingshot Effect” that shoot the Spacecraft faster to near light speed.

The idea of building actual Spacecraft at Space Shipyards with attached Space Elevators. With these actual Spacecraft never intending to land on a Planet, and deploys a Space Elevator instead or uses Landing Craft.

Space based Solar Powered Lasers to use with Spacecraft with Solar Sails, being propelled to near 1/6th (TV Series says 1/5th) Speed of Light. Space based Laser Relay Stations both for propulsion and high speed minimal delay communications. 1982 Movie Tron has a “Light Ship” traveling, riding on a Continuous Laser Beam.

Generational Spacecraft as “Orphans of the Sky” as Miles in Diameter and Many Miles in Length, with most later believing that they were living at a Planet, and not inside a Spacecraft after an accident. Similar concepts of the Movie “Passengers”, a generation on Earth Dead before they arrive at Destination. Spacecraft Elysium of the Book and 2009 Movie Pandorum. Long Term Hibernation 1968 Movie Planet of the Apes, 1979 Movie Alien.

Robert Heinlein’s “Farmer In The Sky” Terra Forming.

Seems today’s Scientists need to Read the Classic Science Fiction, of Arthur C. Clarke, Robert A. Heinlein, Doc E.E. Smith, Previously mentioned (IMDB Astronauts Do You Have What It Takes) those best suited for this would be U.S. Military Special Warfare as Proved Physically Fit and Mentally Fit. Screened for and Selected Introverts, not Extroverts, that can by choice endure long periods of Isolation voluntarily as a Lifestyle choice, while being U.S. Military Special Warfare are proved to have Actual Life Or Death Team Work Skills and Life Or Death Leadership Skills. U.S. Military like Submariners that have routinely lived in close quarters for long periods of time with lots of crew members, quite literally “under pressure” (Sea Water).
