“Something came out of the ocean”
An old Cornish fisherman is attacked by some unknown creature from the sea, dead fish mysteriously lie on beaches. Man’s nuclear testing has raised a radioactive dinosaur out of the depths. It proceeds to attack London. Nothing original here: Beast From 20000 Fathoms, Godzilla, etc spring to mind. However this is a really enjoyable sci fi/monster shocker. Naturally it looks very dated now but the effects and grisly makeup look pretty decent for it’s time. It also has a few shocking moments, the attack on the Woolwich ferry being a good example. It’s obviously a model but the sight of passengers falling into the water, drowning and a child’s doll floating on the surface was quite powerful. Plenty of British stiff upper lip. Some of the accents are a bit questionable though, possibly a few American actors trying to sound British. This one had for many years slipped me by but I was very impressed. Watched under it’s original title “Behemoth the Sea Monster”
