Those nights when finding a movie takes just as long as watching one.
Two young couples heading for a music festival find themselves in a nightmare scenario in Los Angeles after taking a day to check out some of the true crime hot spots in town. While one couple is straight laced and reserved, the other is attracted to Gothic culture and thrill seeking. Peer pressure and bad decisions lead to a nightmare scenario for all four teens. Satanic fits somewhere in between cookie cutter teen horror of the last 20 plus years and a cable television movie of the week. It isn’t horrible but probably not worth watching again. If you’ve ran out of options and don’t mind lowering your standards, this one shouldn’t have you rolling your eyes too much.
OK If You Want to Feel Comfortable Exploring the Forbidden
Great Title. As the Movie Opens it Shows Signs of Promise. There is some Nifty Establishment Stuff like Stock Footage of Anton Levey and “The Church of Satan”, and some Cool Devils from Vintage Toons (Priceless). Finally it is Refreshing that the Camera is Not Shaking All Over and the “Selfie” Shots are Minimal.
So Far So Good. It’s a Slick Looking B-Movie from a Horror TV Vet, Director Jeffrey Hunt and the Acting is Par for Young Professionals. So Why is the Film getting absolutely Horrible Reviews.
Could be it’s not Gritty and its Dark Subject Matter Begs for an Unorthodox Feel and this Movie Feels Safe, it has a Ton of Fake Suburban Angst and Poser Sensibilities. That, in Fact, is what the Characters are.
Spoiled Know-It-Alls with Each One Adapting a Cardboard Cutout Style and Flaunting it as something Original. So for Better or Worse the Film is Stuck with those People and it Bleeds All Over the Movie with a Standoffish, never Threatening, Weekend Spring Fling.
But Beneath the Safe Veneer and the Tone of the Characters and by Proxy the Movie, it does have Moments of Mayhem and Murder, Creepiness and Cult Activity.
Overall, Worth a Watch for Die-Hards and especially those that want to Feel Comfortable while Their being Scared (by proxy). The Movie offers a Lifeline that Presents the Less than “Satanic”, where You would Never Encounter a Ouija Board or Strategically Placed Safety-Pins on a T-Shirt.
