Reviews:

Brutally Beautiful
The storyline is predictable, but the visual and the fights makes up for it. I understand why people compare the lead actor with Jet Li. They both have that presence on screen, the amazing flexibility and fighting sequences. Outstanding acrobatic movements when running from the bad guys in the street and it was good to see the shots from different angles.

It reminds me of some Jet Li’s better fighting sequences before he took to the wires. This is the kind of martial arts film that makes me smile and cheer.

If you like martial arts films, then you’ll sure to like this.

Good Action, Horrible Plot, Excellent Movie
If you watch Ong-Bak expecting a solid, good, well-told movie, you will want to tear your eyes out and sell them on the black market by the time the film is over. If you go into Ong-Bak expecting an action flick that will make you want to buy a set of extra eyes on the black market just to be able to see the stunts better, you’ll be a fairly happy person. If you’re the kind of person who can’t stand movies without good plot, though, just calmly walk away from this movie and don’t look back.

Ong-Bak is about 4% story, 95% action, and 1% some annoying Chinese girl screaming her head off in grief, making you wish she would ACTUALLY SCREAM HER HEAD OFF. The story is not important, so I won’t bother going over it. The action is what really sells this movie. Tony Jaa, the star, is the next amazing martial arts performer, if he can get out of these sorts of cheesy badly acted Chinese films. Every single stunt in Ong-Bak is pulled off without any wires at all, making the action that much more amazing. I am a huge Jackie Chan fan, and a Matrix fan, and a Bruce Lee and Jet Li admirer, so I’ve seen my fair share of kick-butt action. But Ong-Bak surpasses anything I’ve ever seen before. The action IS. SIMPLY. MIND-BLOWING. At one point Tony Jaa is cornered in a dead end alley, and he escapes the alley BY RUNNING OVER THE SHOULDERS OF THE GANG IN FRONT OF HIM. No wires. Just Tony Jaa, running. And once the action stops, it does not let up.

Don’t watch Ong-Bak expecting a good story. Just look for a wonderfully choreographed, action packed, mind-blowing martial arts flick. You’ll be greatly rewarded.
