Synopsis

Watch: Mystery Train 1989 123movies, Full Movie Online – Over the course of a single night in pale Memphis–the home of Sam Phillips’ legendary Sun Studio–a vivid triptych of romantic Rock n’ Roll pilgrimage; sad nostalgia; emotional Americana, and forgotten, decrepit places unfolds. Pivoting around the low-rent and almost dilapidated Arcade Hotel, the strange stories of four visitors unwittingly intertwine, as the aloof couple of Japanese teenagers–Mitsuko, who yearns to visit Graceland, and Jun, a sad-faced die-hard fan of Carl Perkins–arrive in the Tennessee ghost town, in “Far from Yokohama”. Likewise, the recently widowed Italian, Luisa, who’s come to town from Rome to take her deceased husband’s body back to Italy, winds up in the same hotel, sharing a room with the garrulous Dee-Dee, in “Ghost”. Then, elsewhere in the city during the same endless night, the neighbourhood’s barber, Charlie, reluctantly goes on a boozy binge with the unemployed British immigrant, Johnny, and, eventually, they both end up in the Arcade, in “Lost in Space”. Of course, the mystical aura of an eternal, 1956-handsome Elvis Presley haunts everything in this unforgettable night in Memphis. Is the King truly gone?.
Plot: In Memphis, Tennessee, over the course of a single night, the Arcade Hotel, run by an eccentric night clerk and a clueless bellboy, is visited by a young Japanese couple traveling in search of the roots of rock; an Italian woman in mourning who stumbles upon a fleeing charlatan girl; and a comical trio of accidental thieves looking for a place to hide.

Reviews:

Devils in disguise
The great medieval philosopher Duns Scotus said that whatever leaves a mark remains present in its trace, and by studying the trace, we may study the thing itself. There are traces of Rock’n’Roll everywhere in Memphis, Tennessee, and Jim Jarmusch digs them up for us to see and hear. The plot of “Mystery Train” itself has some semblance of a song. Money is spent, hearts are broken, a gunshot rings, the jukebox plays. When everybody else is playing it cool, Steve Buscemi is the soul of the story as Charlie the Barber, a coward with a heart of gold. For the first time in a long string of enigmatic guest appearances, Tom Waits provides voice-over as a late night radio DJ. “Mystery Train” is also a work of critical feminism. From the very beginning, the girls make all the calls: cheerful Mitsuko, no-nonsense Luisa, chatterbox Dee-Dee. As the King himself once observed, they are devils in disguise.

That’s alright, Yokohoma mama!
Vignettes that intersect showing the comings and goings of a motley assortment of visitors to a rundown hotel in a seedy part of Memphis, Tennessee. A Japanese couple are indifferent to how important it is to see Sun Studios and Graceland. A shooting victim is the center of a comical, but stressful situation. Soundtrack features songs actually recorded at the legendary Sun Studios on Union Avenue: “Domino” by Roy Orbison, “Memphis Train” by Rufus Thomas, “Blue Moon” by Elvis Presley, “Pain in My Heart” by Otis Redding and others. Plus there is a double dose of the title song “Mystery Train” by both Junior Parker and Elvis.

This quirky Jim Jarmusch project features Masatoshi Nagase, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Elizabeth Bracco, Steve Buscemi, Rick Aviles, Cinque Lee, Rufus Thomas and the voice of Tom Waits. Buscemi’s character can’t be ignored…superb example of nerve wrecking. Most outstanding characters are Hawkins as the hotel night clerk and his obnoxious bellboy Lee. Looking for something different? Take a trip to the underbelly of Memphis on the Mystery Train.
