I don’t even know what to say… I somehow kinda liked it.I can understand that 1.7 average rating (ouch!) but at the same time I truly didn’t even mind this 2018 remake/adaptation of Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel. This incarnation of ‘Freaky Friday’ switches the story into a musical. My brain was constantly telling me throughout that events onscreen were bad and yet I evidently hold nothing against it – if anything the opposite, to be honest. I’m just as surprised as you!
Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff are actually enjoyable in the lead roles and, I’m sorry, but “At Last It’s Me” is a lowkey bop. Of course it’s a million miles away from being anything close to perfect but for what it is – a made-for-television Disney Channel teenager flick – I can’t give it any hate. Is 7/10 generous?^ Probably, but whatcha gonna do. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Decent watch, probably won’t watch again, and can’t recommend unless you just wanted a “body swap” musical. While the musical part of the musical is fun and well performed, I didn’t realize I was going to watch a musical unless (basically) seconds before I clicked play. I was wondering why Disney rebooted this title, but it’s clear that this is it’s own thing that happens to share the title because it’s under the same company.
The “magical” hourglass, though an awkward prop, is a much better magic medium than a “cookie”, and “The Hunt” is a good enough of an idea that they could have made a entire movie based on that, without anything else and it has potential to be a best seller. I also liked that they developed a lot of the supporting actors and antagonist in this version.
However sometimes they do that because the main characters are weak and they need to compensate. Part of it the way they’re written, and it’s not like these are bad actors, but they’re low level actors that probably were selected based on contracts and musical experience, and I’ll be honest: I didn’t care for most of the acting in this.
Having just watch the 2003 version, I just don’t think this holds up.
Whole movie in one review
I tried to do a zero but it would not let me. That was the worst movie ever. I would rather shove that hourglass up my butt hole than watch that again. The singing and songs were horrible. It felt like my ears were bleeding. That movie just wasted my time. If you are reading this do not watch that movie.
It was so bad I made an account just to give it a one star.
I tried giving it a chance. I didn’t want to be THAT person who’s always complaining about old ones always being the better ones, because we all need remakes every once in a while to keep the culture going. But not like this. I have one word for the movie, TRASH. Horrible horrible horrible. If I could get a refund from my Cable provider for those 2 hours I could.
