Fool’s Paradise unravels, presenting an intriguing canvas where Charlie Day’s portrayal of Latte Pronto, a character that could be deemed one of the comedic greats in the annals of television and film, takes center stage. It was a moment of pure elation to witness Day’s triumphant foray into writing, directing, and starring in a theatrical release alongside a stellar ensemble cast. Jason Sudeikis, as Lex Tanner, makes an appealing addition to the mix, while Ray Liotta delivers a short yet commanding performance as “The Producer” in his final on-screen appearance. Day possesses all the essential elements to explore the enigmatic realm of Hollywood, yet the pieces fail to align as seamlessly as anticipated. Nevertheless, Fool’s Paradise held moments of enjoyment for me. The premise, with its instant allure, evoked laughter from the depths of my being. Day’s comedic prowess had me in stitches, and several other instances, particularly involving Adrien Brody’s character, evoked wild delight. However, certain factors prevent the film from ascending to greatness. The first half, filled with infinite hilarity, outshines the latter half, which regrettably failed to elicit even a single chuckle from my lips. Additionally, while I enjoyed the humorous segments, the gravitas of the more serious moments and character developments failed to resonate with me. Nonetheless, the foremost issue lies in Ken Jeong, seemingly cast as the lead, as his comedic presence failed to evoke any laughter within me. While his smaller roles have often amused me, it appears he struggles to carry an entire film on his comedic shoulders. Despite these reservations, Fool’s Paradise managed to provide me with an enjoyable experience. I remain hopeful that it paves the way for Charlie Day to craft further comedic masterpieces, particularly in an era when comedic movies seem to teeter on the brink of extinction. I am unequivocally devoted to watching anything he graces with his presence. On a scale of mystery, I bestow upon Fool’s Paradise a 6 out of 10, a rating that suffices for its enigmatic allure.

Just Not Funny
I saw Fool’s Paradise, starring Charlie Day-Pacific Rim: Uprising, the Horrible Bosses movies; Ken Jeong-My Spy, the Hangover movies; Kate Beckinsale-the Underworld movies, Pearl Harbor and Adrien Brody-The French Dispatch, Predators.

This movie is written, directed and stars Charlie Day, whom I think can be really funny. The problem is that he is not here. Charlie plays 2 roles. The first is a troublesome actor that won’t come out of his trailer-he later commits suicide, and it’s played for laughs, yep, real funny. The second is a headcase from a mental hospital that a movie producer discovers-since he looks like their actor-and tries to replace their dead actor with him. Charlie-as the mental patient-doesn’t talk and barely understands direction. Ken plays the agent that represents Charlie and Kate & Adrien play fellow actors. I guess the joke is that Charlie can become famous without talking but most of the gags are not funny, they are just stupid. An example: silent Charlie marries a star and they adopt 3 Asian children. There are lots of cameos-I guess they owed Charlie a favor-including Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman, Edie Falco, John Malkovich, Common and Ray Liotta.

It’s rated R for language, drug use, alcohol use and sexual content-no nudity-and has a running time of 1 hour & 37 minutes.

It’s not one that I’d buy on DVD, or even rent. If you really want to see it, I’d wait until it comes to tv.
