Beautiful, informative and entertaining
There is something about a story well told that stays with you a long time. Seeing beautiful art has the same effect on me and the beauty of the art in this film is astounding. Although I am no expert, I am sure the skillful camerawork under the direction of Don Millar is a major contributing factor. At one point during the film I couldn’t help thinking that seeing the artwork presented alone, was worth the price of admission. In the telling of Botero’s life journey it is evident that the presentation of his progression as an artist and the focus on specific turning points is well considered and results in a film that is greater than the sum of its parts. I highly recommend this film to anyone interested in art, art history and learning about life through the lens of an accomplished and successful individual.
Impressive and Beautiful.
As someone who did not know much about Botero and his art before watching this film, I was impressed by how much of his background and history they were able to explore while also being able to tell a very compelling and cohesive story that is still relevant to the present.
This film is also beautifully shot and edited. They really knew how to bring out the bright colours and volume of Botero’s art, and every still of a painting or sculpture felt purposeful, rather than simply dropped into the film to fill up time.
Whether you’re a fan of Fernando Botero or not, this is definitely a documentary that you should see.
